Art Blog: The Soul

??????????We are all attracted to the light of a soul. A lot of spiritual teachings and modalities talk about being ‘good, nice, kind, generous’ etc – again emphasizing the light of the soul. We all want people around us to be the same good, nice, happy people.

the soul abstract backgroundBut it is actually the combination of our light and ‘dark’ parts of our soul that make each one of us unique. There is nothing ‘wrong’ with the darker parts of us. There is nothing wrong with getting angry, with standing our ground, expressing our frustrations, crying our tears. As a society we have made the darker parts of us unacceptable, but yet its in our darkness that the light has a meaning.

Once we accept the darkness within us, the light within us shines brighter. Once we accept the insanity of life, our real truth stands its ground. Its where we become uniquely us, beautiful glorious us.

Life Without Limits

Life Without Limits by Nick Vujicic

If you are not a reader, and if you were told you have to read just ONE book, this would be THE BOOK.

Just the video inspires you, and yet humbles you.

Nick Vujicic was born without arms and legs. His family, especially his parents, loved him unconditionally. The book is his story, how he had to deal with his disabilities emotionally and physically growing up. It is brutally honest, and you can feel his despair. But as the book progresses, you see this extraordinary man embrace God, have faith in God’s plan for him, and how he transforms his life into living happily and independently. There are some funny moments in the book which simply bring tears to your eyes (my favorite moment was when he stuffed himself into the baggage carrier on top of the airline seats as a prank!)

Here we are, with hands and legs, and we grumble through life. There are days nothing anyone does or anything around us makes us happy. We forget how blessed we are. We forget how it is up to us to make a choice to be happy – no matter what!

“To wish for change will change nothing. To make the decision to take action right now will change everything!”

His book offers practical day to day advice for building a life of fulfillment and happiness by accepting what you cannot change, and embracing what you can change. And that’s what Nick did. Instead of letting his disability bring him down, he embraced it, and went on to conquer one goal after another – learning how to swim to learning how to surf! Yes surf! Now that’s incredible.

I remember reading his chapter on learning how to swim and thought to myself – dammit Leena you are scared to swim why?? And I ended up enrolling into classes to learn how to swim. I figured if he can do it, so can I! Screw living in fear! 🙂

Go ahead and invest in this book. I promise you – you will start to live your life with happiness once you realize that it is your imperfections that make you the Unique You that you truly are!

“I found happiness when I realized that as imperfect as I may be, I am the perfect Nick Vujicic. I am God’s creation, designed according to his perfect plan for me.”

For my mother …

For my mother and all the other mothers in the universe.

My mom is my pillar of strength, my rock, my truth, my everything … Pushing me to study and explore my art even when I didn’t think I had the talent, supporting me on my holistic journey even if she didn’t understand the nitty-gritties of it, being there for me, knowing I am not ok just by hearing my voice on the phone and giving me kick ass advice everytime I got stuck! My mom knows what my truth is, and she makes sure that I never deviate from my truth, and I never settle for less than what I deserve, always making me aim higher, and supports me whilst I go aiming for the stars and the heavens!

At every point just making sure I have the opportunity to simply be me and for loving me as I am! I love you mama!

They say that heaven is under a mother’s feet, and I am blessed to have a mom like her.  This post is dedicated to all the moms out there … Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms!

“God gave us mothers because he knew
There are some things only Mothers can do.
Stories just she knows that need to be told;
Hugs that get born in a heart made of gold.
God sends us so many things from above,
Delivered by Mothers wrapped up in love.”

“When you looked into my mother’s eyes you knew, as if He had told you, why God had sent her into the world…it was to open the minds of all who looked to beautiful things.”
James M. Barrie

“My mother … taught me about the power of inspiration and courage, and she did it with a strength and a passion that I wish could be bottled.”
Carly Fiorina

“My mother taught me to be the best person you can be. Strive to live your life to the fullest and don’t let one day go by without trying to live it the best way you can.”
– Unknown

A little boy’s mother once told him that it is God who makes people good. He looked up and replied, “Yes I know it is God; but mothers help a lot.”

“A mother has the special gift of always speaking true.
A mother gets the praise or blame if skies be dark or blue.
A mother is a doctor, a joiner or a vet,
The jobs a mother cannot do have not been heard of yet.
Whatever else she may be, a mother knows full well,
A house could never be a home without her magic spell.”
– Unknown

“A mother is a person who seeing there are only 4 pieces of pie for 5 people, promptly announces she never did care for pie.”
– Tenneva Jordan

“I remember my mother’s prayers and they have always followed me. They have clung to me all my life.”
Abraham Lincoln
