faith low res

Let Go. Let God. Isn’t that what faith is all about? Knowing that no matter what happens, He is there for you, He has a master plan for you. In the end, you know you will land on your two feet, but you gotta have ‘faith, faith, faith’ 🙂

I read somewhere that the phrase “do not be afraid” is written in the Bible 365 times. That it is a daily reminder from God to live everyday being fearless. Isn’t that all about letting your faith be bigger than your fears? How does it get even more amazing than that? 🙂

I used charcoal to create this abstract portrait on paper.

The original artwork & high resolution digital downloads of the artwork are available on Etsy.

I AM … Sophia

I AM … Sophia

This painting of Sophia is very close to my heart. I have always run away from sketching or painting faces. I would find every single excuse under the sun not to paint a face. But I guess Sophia was determined to come alive.

When I started this painting, I have to admit not a single feature was appealing or remotely even close to normal. Sophia pushed me to draw faces, to find my style, I started using charcoal to sketch faces, but keeping true to my abstract style. And so I sketched face after face.  I threw 70% into the bin, but the rest 30% came alive. I had a mentor who really showed me the ropes, and he was as determined as Sophia that I get over this insane fear of faces.

I left Sophia’s painting alone for over 4 weeks. When I came back to her, I was a lot more confident in my space. And within 6 hours of working, Sophia was alive.

Across all scriptures, Sophia represents wisdom. To me, Sophia represents triumph over fear.  The step towards leaving behind self imposed creativity shackles and moving towards true inner creative freedom. Now that I look back, I wonder why the hell was I even scared? I guess it’s now time to do a realistic portrait of a person 🙂

Art Blog: Shiva

Shiva acrylic painting

Shiva is the God I believe in.  Painting him on canvas for the 1st time really stirred something deep inside of me. Shiva is known to be the Destroyer of darkness within. And I have to admit, whilst painting him, I had to face a lot of my ‘darkness’, my fears, my insecurities, and aspects of my side that I refused to see that were actually my strengths.

As I progressed through this painting (which took a few weeks since I had to keep walking away from it), my meditations became deeper, my dreams more intense. Instead of panicking, I knew this was a process of me really using ‘Shiva’s energy’ to dive deeper, and I simply let things happen.

IMG_20150103_235428[1]Then, one fine day, within 48 hours, all the pieces fell into place. The paints flowed, the colors glowed. Within me, there was so much peace, so much joy.  So many things became clear, including my focus and my purpose. The ideas that started flowing were incredible. I started jotting everything down. Dreams started connecting, and finally – the old fell through, and the new emerged.

There is only one poem / quote that always reminds me of my bond to Shiva 🙂

‘I AM the daughter of a KING
who is not moved by the world,
for my GOD is with me
and goes before me.
I do not fear
because I am HIS.
I AM the daughter of Shiva.’
