Isnt everyone on a journey of their own?

It’s funny how when you embark on something, the universe sends you people or things or signs that are related to what you are going through! I met a friend today, who had been going through a rough breakup with his girlfriend. By rough I mean nasty. Today he’s much happier, and is starting a journey of his own. Moving to Europe in the next few months to study in a top MBA program. I have never seen him so relaxed, chilled, happy – basically ‘going with the flow’. he said that all he did was stress, worry, think about what others think-feel-do and want, what others thought of him, what was expected out of him. At every point it was about trying to get others to love him. The day he sat up and realized that no one would love him unless he learnt how to love and appreciate himself first, it all started to flow. And he began to let go, without anger or regret, and move on. And his journey began …

Today I cant help but remember a ‘brave’ friend of mine. 2 years ago, she sat up and said – OK am earning good money by selling advertising space, I am good at what I do but why am I so unhappy? What happened to my dream of opening a spa in my hometown? Overnight she resigned, went to India and enrolled to get her certifications. At that time everyone said – she’s gone mad! But I clearly remember thinking ‘wow shes got guts and courage to go do this!’ I am so proud of her, and part of me really looks up to her, especially knowing the hardships, the sacrifices she has gone through to get where she is today. Her journey to owning her dream spa is still on….

Last week, I found an unread book by Paulo Coelho hidden away in my library – the pilgrimage. I have owned it for nearly 5 years and its signed by Coelho when he visited Dubai. Somehow it stayed hidden for 5 years until last week. It’s about his quest for ancient wisdom, his journey to understanding the nature of truth through the simplicity of life and people. Still reading it… But I read something in his book last night – “the good fight is the one that’s fought in the name of our dreams. When we are young and our dreams explode inside us with all of their force, we are very courageous, but we haven’t yet learned to fight. With great effort, we learn to fight, but by then we no longer have the courage to go into combat. So we turn against ourselves and do battle within. We become our own worst enemy. We say that our dreams are childish, or too difficult to realise, or the result of our not having known enough about life. We kill our dreams because we are afraid to fight the good fight.”

Amazingly a lot of us do that …
